Hey

Just wondering what is involved to remove the Mercury emblem on the hatch?

Not sure how to get it off, but I think it involves some heating. Anyways, I believe it's held on by three prongs so you need to get the holes filled as well. Body shops like to screw you on that, so try to shop around unless you're doing it yourself.

Yup, three I'm pretty sure. I got a shop to look at it when I went in for some bodywork a couple months ago. I asked them to shave my trunk and that's when they found out about the holes. They wanted some absurd amount to fill the holes and crap, so I went somewhere else.

you could also remove it (i think i used a small screwdriver wrapped in cloth) and then goo goned the adhesive that was left on the trunk..depending on the year of your cougar, the rest of the trunk may be faded in comparison to the circular area that the mercury emblem occupied...i put a cougar emblem off the 99-00 grill on there instead..looks very nice..of course, you also have the option for a black or other custom color ford logo, or one of those oval cougar logos

I used fishing line to get mine off the back of my car. Then put a blue Ford oval on in its place. Fairly easy to do.
yes this is hands down the easiest way to remove them.

Hey...them der ricers bout to race at the bank

But yeah, Ive removed my emblem a while back, and it required a lot of elbow grease and pulling. However, there are three holes behind it which can be covered up by a Ford emblem if you're into that.
