i was cleaning snow off my car and when i went to clear the roof off the snow was so high i didnt even see the antenna beings i had a short billit one. so not realizing it was there i just push the snow off and i hear a quiet kink sound. then i saw the antenna base and my antenna laying in a pile of snow on the ground. now the problem is that when it broke off the post is still in side the base and i have no idea how to get it out. it almost looks like i did it with a saw the cut is so clean. i dont need the antenna at all because i cant stand the radio but i dont want to pay the money to have it removed and the hole filled in so i want to get the post out and just get another antenna. to replace the entire base would cost $127 and that is just way too much for me to pay for something as stupid as that so if you think you know anyway to get it out let me know and ill try it. thanks.

i thought the antenna was the exact opisite of the way you are describing. i would have to go look but i think the base is the male end and the antenna has the female threaded part. which would mean you would have to replace the whole thing.

edit: i just ventured out into the cold to check for ya. and well sorry to say but you will have to replace the base.

Yeah, that isn't the antenna mast that broke off and is stuck in there, it's actually a metal spindle that is part of the base. If you look in your mast the piece is probably still in there. You have to order the antenna base/bezel (the black part on your roof) in order to have something to screw the mast onto, the mast is female and the base is male.

Where are y'all getting a price of $127 to fix the base?

I had someone rip my shorty billet out at school and OrangeCat got me a base from a junk yard and replaced it myself. It's really simple to swap base parts out. I had the same problem again with snow as well and Im currently getting my 3rd base, but this time with the antenna....cause im done with shorty :wiggle:

Joe....if you want, I can see about getting my base by the meet and see if you can find one and we can just fix it there. I dont think it'd be too tough :)

You guys ever hear of drillout? Go to sears and pick up a set for $20. All you need is the kit and a drill. You should have it out in 2 minutes tops. The kit is great for all the times you break a bolt and need the threads out.

Drill out won't help, it's not the antenna mast that is broken off in the base. There isn't anything broken off in the base. What you see left in the base is actually part of the base that the antenna mast screws onto. So even if you drill that broken piece out, there's nothing left to screw the antenna onto. It's hard to picture, I know, but if you go unscrew your antenna you'll see a metal spindle sticking out of the base that it screws onto. That's what keeps breaking off and the rest of it is left inside the base and the other half inside the mast. You can't avoid buying a new base because that's what is broken.

Yes the piece is broken off into the base because the antenna is the male as stated before and the end broke off in there. COUGAR4LIFE i wish it looked like that cause then i could just get a wrench or something and just twist it out. The piece that is broken off sits flush inside so there isnt anyway to get something around it to unscrew it. Ethan i got the price from JJ (Blitzkrieg) because he has the same problem and told me at the meet that the dealership told him that price. The dremel idea may actually work but i dont know if ill be able to get it in there, or maybe ill check that out at Sears but if not ill try to get one from a junkyard and we can switch them at the meet.

I will say this one more time, if you want to say my quote is wrong go ahead and misguide people, but THERE IS NOTHING BROKEN OFF IN THE BASE!!! The piece that looks like it is broken off in the base IS THE BASE ITSELF. I promise I'm right, I had to replace the base. When you get the new base you'll see what I mean...THE SPINDLE IS PART OF THE BASE, IT BROKE IN HALF, ONE PIECE IN THE ANTENNA AND THE REMAINING STILL ATTACHED TO THE BASE. If you drill that piece out, there won't be anything there but a hole, which does you no good because you have to have something to screw the female antenna onto. That didn't sound right...:naughty:

I don't know why they charged $97.00 to fix that with the part, but that really sucks. The base is like $36.00 and it takes 10 minutes to do yourself, so please don't go to a dealership to fix this. Just order the base from fordpartsonline.com, wait for it to come, then follow the instructions above.

the male base screw part is broken off in the female antenna, correct?

if so, then the drill out kit will work. all you have to do is drill out what is stuck in the antenna. you drill into the center of the piece broken off in the antenna, then drill it out... leaving you with an unbroken and unfilled antenna. then just replace the base.

I thought you were talking about drilling the piece out of the base...that's what other people were trying to do. All I was saying is that even if you do that you still have to buy the base. Sorry, didn't mean to be offensive, I was just trying to get the idea across.

Here's how I fixed mine. On my Ford Flex '11, the male threaded spindle broke off on the attenna, from mygarage door, lol. I read about the Dremel idea, didn't have one, so I used a sharp wood drill bit tip and a hammer, and carefully scored a shallow groove across the center of the metal piece that was left in the hole, then used a sharp, small screwdriver, tap it into the groove a bit for bite, and then backed the threaded bit out of the hole, then screwed in a new $12 antenna (which is not threaded female, but male threaded, to attach to base)
