Who all has painted taillights? I'm not talking about painted taillight covers, but taillights themselves being painted. I'm curious if they've had any problems with light shining through the paint. I can't remember, but i'm not even sure if light even goes through any other part of the taillights except the boobies. If so, how were they prepped so the light doesn't shine through?

mask them, (the areas that you want left untouched) scuff the remainder areas... primer them (so the light doesnt shine through the paint) paint them... remove masking tape... clear coat...

I'm sure others will chime in and correct something if I've missed it...

IIRC most shops wont paint tails b/c they would be illegally altering DOT approved lights and some mods will void DOT compliance...

I believe the thing about painting the taillights is that the Cougar S spoiler developed in England is not compatible with taillight covers, thus if you want the same look, you have to paint them.

Not strictly true - the guys that made my spoiler said that you'd just have to trim part of the spoiler off to make it sit properly...but its a lot of work!!!
