what is a CEL?

I have seen many people saying they got a cel when something went wrong with a mod. What is a cell? how do you get it? how can you fix it? Thanks guys

CEL = Check Engine Light

There is a diagnostic mode in our computers where you can get it to show the code on your little screen in your speedo..
