Okay . . . My brother a 1998 v6 mustang (manual) . . . and i have a 99 v6 cougar (automatic) . . . everyday he pokes fun at me for having a slow car and that his car can beat mine any day . . . I somewhat believe him being that i gave up some power in buying the automatic . . . but my question is . . . what about a manual cougar and a mustang?

IIRC from a roll the V6 Coug could take the stang..But from a dead stop the stang would get ya.

not so, my friend and i raced one time, his 96 v6 stang had a cone filter, so did I at the time. we both took off, balls to the wall, and I beat him. And he is a better driver than I am, I also had my full stereo in my car too.

btw, both are manuals.

98 v6's had only 145 horsepower, pretty pathetic for a 6 cylinder with 3.8 liters and if i remember correctly, stangs are a little heavier then us. go for it.

The V6 mustang engine sucks because it is a pushrod motor with THE cam in the block. If they would take that displacment, strap on 24 valve heads and a few other goodies, it would smoke pre 99 gt's. I was going to buy one before I got my cougar but 316 bucks a month for insurance is not what I have in mind.

ooo stangs are always fun to race against, you never know what the outcome will be. I took out a new-style V6 stang in my ATX..he might have been a manual tho cuz he jumped out in front of me when the light turned green...my front bumper was pretty much at his door until we hit about 80 and I walked right by him. This kid I know has a new-style GT Convertible ATX and wants to race me...what do you think about that?

That is one of the most ignorant statements I've read in a long time.

It is a poor motor because of design, not because it's a pushrod motor. If it were designed with better flowing intake, heads and manifolds along with a better cam and that dumb pushrod motor would smoke any Cougar around it.

I by no means meant that pushrod engines were crappy, I lose to them all the time. But like I said, all engines need to breath, and the 3.8L motor would be better off with improved heads and cams.

Good luck.

If he hooks he should take out of the hole, however you should get him on top though. Reason for the hole is the Mustangs Torque. 220tq vs 170tq.

But even with the slightly higher HP and TQ, the V6 stang weighs almost as much as the GT does so you have that for an advantage.

Good luck
