Just spent the last 6 months rebuilding the 2.5L in my 01 cougar. I decided to spice it up a bit and installed SVT cams, intake, pistons etc. However now I can't get it to start. Lots of spitting, sputtering, and misfiring like I installed the distributor 180 degrees out in the old days. I pulled the front valve cover off to start looking for timing issues. The stator missing tooth is in line with the key way but after looking more closely at the little raised boss on the exhaust cam, it appears to be in a slightly different position than the original 01 cams. Can anyone confirm this issue?
