I was driving along on a streach of highway the is fairly long and straight, (99 cougar ATX with 68000kms) and im averaging about 160km/hr (100mph) when the sprocket with exclamation point started flashing on my digital cluster. So i pull over and there is a skinnt streak of oil in the path my car took and it is leaking under my car, creating a small puddle. Its red and obviously tranny fluid. I checked the level with the dipstick and when i took it out, i noticed a little puff of mist came out with it. So the oil looked and smelled fine and was at the correct level, so i drove on. Stopped about 10 minutes later after dropping my speed to 60mph and looked again, there was still oil under the tranny but not dripping, as if the leak stopped. Gets to a dealer, they can't find a problem, said the code didn't show up on the computer and took it for a few drives. They concluded that it only leaks at hight speeds. I have had my car for awhile now and driving prolonged high speeds was never a problem. I would like to know what brings in that tranny light, and if anybody knows if there is a blow off or vent ontop of the tranny. thanks.

think i figured out the problem with the car, seems that when i got my transmission serviced awhile ago, they added too much oil and when it warmed up it blew out the vent, i guess, they took out some oil and hopefully its fixed, don't care, i still got warrenty.

Yup. There is a little hose behind the battery that sprays out tranny fluid in the event of too much pressure building up. I had the same thing happen to me (dash icon & all).

If you look just behind your battery into the engine bay you'll see a little puddle of tranny fluid. You may want to take it back & show them so they do it right.

Now why Ford has it spray into the engine bay is beyond me....how hard would it be to run the hose under the car?
