my transimission has been taking a beating lately. i think its time for some new fluid./ the guy at autozone just told me to stick a funnel into the tube where the yellow transmision fluid dipstick goes and poor new fluid in. that guy seemed like a yambag so i don't know if i trust him

Get the car up on jacks, so the front end is in the air. Slide underneath and locate your trans. pan and there should be a release valve around it. Gonna undo the vavle/bolt and drain all the old trans fluid out.. put the bolt back in and put in the new trans fluid. You can do this through the dipstick spot or through the cap marked "trans fluid".. I think the Cougar has a place to pour besides the dipstick.

I know this is a pretty crappy walk through, and the main point was that the guy was wrong. If you're low on fluid, you can pour some in, but if you're looking to replace it all, pouring in more can blow your trans.
