Very easy to install. I put mine right behind the grill in front of the radiator. All that you do is disconnect the metal lines that feed into the radiator (They look almost like fuel lines) and cut the ends off with a pipe cutter. Hook up the hoses that came with the cooler and run them from the disconnected lines to the cooler. You can either plug the old holes, or just leave them open like I did. This is a very easy addition, and is well worth the time. It should only take an hour or so to get it done. You can also run the cooler in line with the radiator, but I was told the tranny cooler would do a better job on it's own without using the radiator too.

3/8" sounds right... I am not sure though. Just have him compare it to the tranny cooler. I mounted mine right in the middle for cosmetic purposes becuse you can see it though the mesh grill, but it would get better air flow if you put it on one of the sides. It'll fit on either side. For the length, I think I had about 3ft of hose and I didn't use all of it.
