Hi everyone, I have a 99 cougar v6 70.000 miles
here in New York temperatures had only reach -10 to 20, for the past 2 day's.
I am having serious problems with my cat...I try every single thing I read here in this forum, but nothing
the cat would not start.
When I turn the key on , the only thing; is a knocking noise from the engine, I have full power ( everything electrical works :fuel pump, lights etc).
but the engine don't start.
this only happens when the temperatures are extremely cold (-10 to 20).
If the temperature is 30 or above I have no problem.
I don't know what to do..............HELP!

It sounds like you have a weak battery. When you turn the key, you just hear a "click, click, click" noise right? That would be it! Just get a new one and you should be good to go... But make sure that you have you alternator tested as well. Autozone will do it for free.

Try adding some gas treatment to prevent freezing in the lines. That could be a problem too.

Even though it turned out to be the battery, it is still a good idea to put in some gas treatment... You can never be too safe when it is really cold out!
