Well...the Cougar is gone. for 5 days anyway. Yesterday it was in the shop getting an elecrical test and it passed with flying colors. there were no problems....despite the dimming I was experiencing at 2am and the battery light coming on (but conveniently it was allways off when I took it to the dealership).

Well, today I was going to get my paycheque when the light came on so I pulled a U turn and went to the dealership, no sooner did we hook it up, revved it 3 times, and BOOM smoke, and the car shut down...the radio was still playing so it was quite dramatic :) the car is dead at Ford, we attempted a new battery....nothing, they did manage o turn it over once, but it shut down 5 min later.

Needless to say, I now have a 2003 Cavalier courtesy of discount rentals sitting where the coug once lay. I am getting a new alternator, main wireing harness, and battery as the electrical system took a 3 volt to 13.33 volt hit multiple times and fried a few things. They are also reserving a day to check all of the ground wires.....

Needless to say, unless someone wants to pick me up, I don't think I'll be making Leos place this weekend. I really want to go, but can't take the rental car out of Ontario.

Mike....we don't know....but seeing smoke from the belts was cool. They are counting a few things....1) The alternator inconsistancies, the voltage was SOO low and thenVERY high. 2) Some voltage regulator blew 3) there was a ground wire that was sheared in half leaving the wire hanging 4) We don't know the exact problem yet :)

and yeah....thank god for the little letter I wrote to ford :)

Matt.... The Cavalier isn't that bad (besides being a 4dr). It's a VL, whatever that means. It's pretty peppy for a little 4 dr. but I miss the coug.

As for the problems....this will make belt 9, alternator 4, battery 3...lol and the list goes much farther than that (like cats, 3 headlights, 2 bumpers, 5 O2 sensors.....blah blah blah) oh the joys of owning one of the oldest cougs.
