I purchased a 5" tach for my 4 cyl coug. never installed a tach b4, My friend says he knows how, but he's mr. Jerry Rig so i always like to check b4 doing anything. i'm pretty sure its mechanical, a starting point would help and any other troubleshooting tips would be nice. thx

There should be instructions with the tach that you purchased, you would want to follow them. I'm pretty sure that most of them are just a ground and a power, and then a line to the stock tach. You may have to tap the computer, but I'm not sure what pin.
