it's called anti-lag. when it's active there are controlled explosions in the turbocharger, that keep it spinning at a very low rpm or even idle. timing is delayed(retard) and air/fuel ratio is made ricer. flames come out of the exhaust because of the extremely high exhaust temp and the unburnt fuel. when you hit the throttle, everything returns to normal and BAM......instant full boost! your right though Kenny....doing that will grenade your turbo within a few hundred miles.

any kind of racing will kill your motor/turbo/tranny/etc. faster....this is no different than anything else....except it's a lot cooler than most other things....
i've seen a few cars have this in person.....it's fun watchin them at the drag strip.....
yosilvr.....if you went for a ride in it i doubt you'd roll your eyes.....instant boost is indeed fun....

That sounded quite similar to a "stutter-box", are they the same thing? I don't think it is, but I'm not too familiar with F/I.
NOTE: I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that this is gonna be one of those "infamous Bobby quotes", right?
Yeah, that is one way to stop people from tailgating you. I may just make my Cougar shoot flames just so people don't ride my ass on the freeway to work anymore.
