Never tried, but I imagine that it require lots of modification (the expensive kind). The rear size is like 6X8", and the smallest sub you're likely to find is 8". So you'd probably have to cut to make room. I think it would take ALOT of work for them to sound good, since subs sound way better in enclosures. I'm sure it's do-able, though....
