Removing stock MTX shift knob

I am trying to install a neon shift knob, and am having some trouble getting the stock one out. I read the posts before about removing the knob and most of them said to just twist it off. Is there anything you have to remove first, like I had the "jacket" around the shaft off but it didn't seem real obvious to me how to get the knob off last night when I was looking at it. Also, as far as the Reverse lock thing that's on there, is it ok if the new shift knob doesn't support it? Because I'm pretty sure it doesn't. Any suggestions or tips would be great. Thanks alot. Also, could anyone give me a rough estimate on how much it costs to get the windows tinted? Any ideas about a good place to get it done, I live in the Minneapolis, MN area. Thanks in advance.

The stock shift knob just screws on and off. It is pretty hard to turn the knob at first, but it comes off. I had my windows tinted for 125, I had it done at Auto 1 in Wyandotte, MI. I think they are out of business now though. Don't quote me on it, but I believe that your shift knob will have to support the reverse lock out.
your shift knob dosen't have to support the rear lockout, but if it dosen't support it you have to take it off to get to reverse :), so then you'll be able to go to reverse wihtout pulling the lockout up, but don't be scared, you can't slide the car into reverse when you are doing 30MPH, the tranny won't let you.

Last night I finally figured it out, I just had to twist harder than I was. Thanks for the help.
