I just took mine off using a plastic scraper, then an adheisive(sp?) remover to get off all of the glue. Then used double sided tape to attach the new logo. Pretty easy, takes like 5-10 minutes!

use some fishing line (wear gloves or it cuts your hands up :) ) and saw thru the adhesive - there are a couple of posts so watch out - you have to sort of work your way around it. use wd 40 to remove the excess adhesive, or goo gone etc. then re-wax the area. purchase cougar logo - if you get the one from the 99/2000 front grill it comes with the doublesided tape already on there, trimmed up etc, so just line it up and stick it on there - make sure it's where you want it when you apply though - no going back :). one more point - this emblem comes with little pegs attatched for the front grill - you can use a dremel or exacto knife to remove these, otherwise you'll have a hard time.

when i did mine i used a butter knife, and it came out ok with only one chip. so you can't go more wrong than that could have

well mines a little different from what you guys said. the logo is just the head from an older modeled cougar. so you can see the inside just the face outline is chromed. and i do have 2 or 3 pegs on em' should i shave them or see if i can get them to fit. ill take a picture of it and then just re-post it so you guys know what im talking about. i just dont wanna screw things up then regret it big time.. ill get a picture up hopefully by tomorrow 5-28-03
oh yea thanks in advance 4 ur patience:thumbsup:

from what i recall, i don't think the pegs you have will line up with the holes for the merc. logo. that being said - i'd take it off and check before you cut em off. also, you'll need to buy a roll of 3m doublesided foam tape - this is prolly your best option for securing the new logo. just trim it well so it doesn't stick out further than the emblem ;)

good luck

OOOOOH! dude, that logo WILL NOT cover the holes in the trunk...well at least not on my 01, I think you 99 ers have two holes when us 01 02 ers have 3( why is a mystery) I used the part number F6WZ-665l7A57-AA..it only cost ten bucks...The 97 is the only one I have seen that is filled in..so it covers the holes. I did this about 2 years ago using 3m emblem adhesive after grinding the 3 prongs off the back. it has NEVER come loose after 2 years of washing...

see attached for pic

EDIT: also...the forementioned 99 front logo is like 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick so it sticks out quite a bit....not appealing to me

I had the hardest time getting my stupid Mercury logo off(Maybe cause it was December 25th and it was -10degrees out? I dunno ;))... I never tried the fishing line idea though. It was more of a can of goo gone and ripping with my hands... eventually pliers, i gouged the paint lol. (the ford emblem covered over it though so.)

well i got a new idea. I think it will work if i get a piece of scrap black vinyl (decal sticker) cut it into a circle and place it ova the hole. then use the 3m stuff and place the cougar head directly ontop of the sticker.

my 2nd option is to get a piece of scrap aluminem and paint is black then place cougar head ontop of the scrap metal.. i could even go red but dont wanna put way to much money into this little stupid thing that no1 will probably even notice
