As everyone knows, the atx shifter is extremely long. I am going to be purchasing an aftermarket shifter and I want to cut it down short. Is there a tutorial on how to do this? I searched and couldn't find it if there is one.

Thanks in advance

I just took a hacksaw and went to town on it... When you take it apart, there is a little screw on the side facing the driver. Take that out and then just pull and twist. The stock one should come right off. Inside, there is a white rod that hits the release button for the shifter... Just pull that out, cut the metal rod to the length that you want - and then cut the white rod to match the length needed for the new shifter you bought. It is a fairly simple process.

dont forget one IMPORTANT thing....

THIS IS AN ATX

you'll have to either re-locate your overdrive button, or put a switch on the new shifter. Other than that, a dremel with a cutting blade will work. IIRC, undue the screws, cut the black rod first, then leave the white inner piece the same length above the black as it was before you cut. (if that made sense)

As for the neutral-drive thing.....I do that all the time :)

neutral...flow back a bit, shift to drive and floor it....makes for a mini burn :) just don't floor it while your still in neutral. I have it timed perfect lol.
