let's say I wanted to gut my precats right now, but am too lazy to make the MIL eliminators (right now)...what do they do besides preventing the CEL from coming on? Would the fact that I didn't have any on affect the O2 sensors or the engine? I have a CEL right now anyway so...

I didn't install MIL eliminators for about 6 months after I gutted my precats. Drove around with t CEL.

That's basically all they do, is get rid of the CEL. That way if it DOES come on, you know something may need attention.

realize that anytime your driving your car with most CELs (including O2 related ones) that your car is running in 'limp' mode, meaning its running at rich a/f settings and retarded engine timing so you don't destroy your engine. And because of this you'll always be making less hp/tq.

some CELs don't do this (IMRC stuck open comes to mind) but most of them do.

and if your going through the work of gutting your precats, you'de be pretty sorry with yourself if you didn't do the MIL when you did them since it gives you the best access to the wires...
