A tab was welded in the reinforce the OEM mount as shown here.

A square tube of metal was welded in underneath the oem mount.

Another great upgrade to your suspension while your under there is to upgrade to the Aussie Endlinks. As you can see from the photo below
The aussie endlink is much superior design, and has a rollerball joint so as the sway bar moves the joint will self adjust and will ultimatly provide superior handling and smoothness.

Nice setup GMK. How much did those endlinks cost? and I'm assuming that the links work on any sway bar for the cougar not just the aussie?

looks pimp, more ideas for me, now you hit the dragon with a smile on your face and not worry about the mounts. that just makes me want to install all my new suspension goodies and head to the dragon with ya

how hard was it to remove the rear subframe to weld it up? could it be done in an afternoon?
