Yes I have searched and searched...and came up with a lot of information, but I need some "recent" advice for myself.

I would like to purchase a set of MSDS Headers and Y, but Im afraid of the costs to install. I saw a post from someone a while back that said the costs can get above 400 dollars. Thats kinda of ridiculous. I honestly do not want to spend a lot of money but I do want more performance for my car.

However, I am hindered because of myself having an ATX, and by no means am I stating that I want my car to run 10s....well maybe in the 1/8th lol

Anyways,

I was also wondering about the Zex dry kit. Would this be a mod that would be better suited for myself? I definatly would not use the nitrous on a regular basis, my car is driven usually 3-4 days a week including the weekend.

So basically Im in need of some advice and some suggestions as to what I should purchase.

Thanks!

George

PS: If I missed an old thread with my search , feel free to point me in the right direction, we are all human and I may have missed something

ATX Header installs are about $300 or so... Unless you want to try it yourself... I wouldn't if you haven't done at least one set of MTX headers previous.

A dry kit is doable... Of course, the car would respond better if you gut your precats, put in a hi-flow main cat, a cat-back system, and intake. I read over your list of mods- They all appear to be cosmetic... Has there been updates since your post to cardomain?

I have a trubendz exhaust (flowmaster) and an intake system

I also heard Zex is one of the "safest" nitrous systems out there. Is the system that DPerformance sells the same way?

That I don't know- Someone on the FI forum should have that info. Gutting the precats is easy, you'll just need to buy/make two MIL Eliminators. That plus the bottle should scoot you around fairly quickly.

however, what is your honest opinion? Should I purchase the headers and wait for the install or purchase the Nitrous system?

Also, what kind of warranty issues am I going to run into? Would I run into more with the Nitrous or the headers? Especially the warranty....im thinking Zex would probably void my tranny warranty due to the extra "worK".

yeah thats what i thought too, and the last thing i want is my tranny to start going out 20k miles down the road and not being able to make a warrany claim :(

I guess it would seem more practical to get the headers and y.

Other opinions are welcome

The headers and y won't ruin your warranty? Can someone please tell me what they've done to their car without ruining the warranty. I'm only wanting to slap on all the basic bolt ons (svt parts) such as the uim, tb, headers, Y, radiator, blah blah. Is this possible or not, I'm almost positive that nitrous would screw your warranty, almost definite. I also have a slush box but I'd like my car to be quicker, 15's would be great. That's all I'm shooting for, or maybe even a 6-7 second 0-60.

Definately go with the headers. They're largest gain for the money if you do the install yourself. Beware though it is a huge pain on the automatic. Set aside an entire day to do the install. (Hint) get yourself a 13mm racheting wrench.

Headers is power all the time, nitrous is more power only some of the time. Either way, I would SERIOUSLY recommend a good trans cooler. That's the first order of business for ANYONE who mods their ATX, IMO. The cooler the tranny, the better.

Personally, I'd go with the headers. Just cooler!

Nitrous is good to have if your Cougar can handle it. In George's case, he eventually would have a Cougar with nitrous sitting at his house not running for a while, which would make the nitrous useless. I am gonna go with DanG and say tranny cooler and headers.

If I got nitrous I wouldnt use it all that much. Like I said I only drive my car about 3-4 days out of the week, 3 of those days im sitting in traffic allday...highly doubtful I would use it lol. And since Im mostly gearing towards car shows, a Zex system may be beneficial in both ways

wait a minute...why are headers so difficult and costly to install? When you gut your precats you have to take the manifolds off anyway??? Personally I wouldn't waste the money on headers because I have an ATX like you, so I'd rather just gut the precats for free.

I've also read some discussions on the ZEX dry kit and they said the tranny would hold up a 55shot no problem.

huh?!?!?!?!?!
I have the headers so don't get me wrong but
636.00 for maybe 20whp
compared to 480.00 55, 75 or 100hp
hmmmmmm
no competition when it comes to $$$ to HP Nitrous more for your money.

Although I have the headers and noticed an increase in power
I'm sure when my nitrous is hooked up I'll notice more of a gain.

For the record ZEXcougar has run 100shot many times and I believe is currently
running a 75 shot. On an ATX tranny

I paid 400 shipped for mine. I would never buy these new when there being sold all the time on this board. Once you get the pain in the a$$ stock headers off the MSDS go on with ease. If your going to go through all that trouble of removing the stock ones why wouldn't you install a set of headers?

MSDS headers for sale 99/00 $450

do N2O kits come with a flip chip for when you engage? or does the ECU not need any signal modifying? ....if the nozzle is after the maf it seems to me that it'd lean the crap out of the mixture. or do the O2 sensors figure it out?

I would go w the ZEX. ITs cheaper, better show value, and you can gut the precats for free.

BTW: I gutted my precats w/o taking the manifold off. The ATX may require removal????
