I usually don't question stuff like this.... but I was out shopping for an oil filter
I was looking for the motorcraft FL-2005... but they didn't make them anymore. I noticed that the shelf in my autozone went from 15 facings of motorcraft filters down to about 5...

just wondering if any industry insider knows what exactly changed between the FL-2005 and the FL-400S....

I know this is an old thread, but I am wondering this now too. I have read a couple of things saying not to use the 400S on the 16 valve engines as they don't have the anti-drain back valve to hold the oil that the cams need on startup. I just put one on mine and now I am a bit worried after seeing that. Looking up the part number on Ford's website says FL-400S, so maybe it's fine.

My Googling seems to show that the FL-400S does have the anti-drain back valve.

I always used the FL-400s on my SVT Focuses.
