I know basically nothing about tires, and have to decide what size tire to put on my car. I am ordering Konig Holes in 18x7.5. i plan on dropping my car 1.2 inches up front, 1 in rear via Eibach springs. Now i have two choices for tire size: 215/35/18 and 225/40/18.

I have no clue what the numbers are referring too ((other than the last number)) Which size tire should i pick and why? Furthermore can someone explain what the difference will be or if possible SHOW me the difference, via pictures? I would appreciate it greatly, and please don't flame me.

The first number is the tread width, in mm. The second number is the sidewall height, as a percentage of the tread width. So using one of your examples, 215/35/18 means the tread width is 215mm, the sidewall height is 35% of that, and the rim size is 18".

So the 215/35/18 tires are narrower yet a little lower profile than the 225/40/18.

i've noticed this progression in rim size

215/50/16 is stock 16's
225/45/17
225/40/18
225/35/19

Going by this i'd suggest the 225/40/18.

225 series tire is also a wider tire. It is also larger and possibly closest to the factory tire size.

Do a search, you are bound to get some hits.

Just a small correction to what ignernt said. The first number (225 for example) it the tire width, not the tread width.

Get the 35 series.. I have a 40 series on my roush springs and I am as low as a stock 01 zn with ground controls...

I'd definately do the 225/40/18

35's are very small on the sidewall and i'd only reccomend them if you ran 19's a 35 sidewall is not very forgiving at all and makes it alot easier to bend a rim. The 225/40 is also very close to stock diameter.
