Check out the page at the bottom, I read through it a while back and saved it until I get ready to do mine. I don't think you want to sand your car unless you really know what you're doing.

thanx...did u use the clear coat? the mercury dealer told me i didn't need it
I haven't repaired the rock chips yet. I don't think you have to worry to much about clearcoat. But perhaps you can buy a small bottle like the touch up paint. I don't think using a spray paint can of clear coat would work well. After you fix the chip, just let it dry a while and then put some good wax on it to protect it.
The dealership touch-up paint is lacquer. Let it dry for a lot longer than a single day like this guy suggests. Like, wait a couple of days.
Mmmmm, tasty liqueurs....oh wait you said lacquer, oh well. :)
All you have to do is put a couple of layer of touch up paint in the chip
then let it dry for a day and hit it with 600 then 1000 then 1500 wetsand paper
the polish it out with 3m glaze
There is a thread somewhere by Murph or Thundercat or Detailing Dude about the best way to do small touch ups....I think the trick is using the matchstick to apply it.

Good luck,

Sunni :)
