I was just driving home today, and all drivability in my 2000 Cougar (2.5 V6 Duratec) disconnected. I rolled to a stop with the pedal not engaging the transmission, the power steering giving out, and check engine, battery, and oil lights all popping simultaneously. It wouldn’t kick over, but waiting a moment allowed it to start; however, the engines idle was unsettlingly rough, and the engine eventually shut down again. I have absolutely no idea what went wrong or what I should look into. The car has 65,000 miles and has been kept up. Any advisements are appreciated.

Sounds like you lost your serpentine belt then the battery died due to no alternator.
The belt is between the engine and the P side fender.
