My friend has a Silver WRX that I helped him modify. Well I pulled
my front bumper off for winter and put on my stock 15's. Getting ready to
tuck her away. So we decided it'd be fun to run the cars one last time just
to see who would win.
The first run was on a wide open stretch of freeway.
60mph roll, I was going to beep three and then go. I asked if he was ready
he got excited and slammed the gas when I yelled "ready?" So he had his
back door at my front end before I could downshift to 3rd. I ran third out and
we were even. I shifted into 4th without missing a beat and walked the back of
my car to his front. By the time 4th was done we were around 100+ and I had
an easy car length on him.
The second run was on a main road we both were in front at a red light.
I saw the other side of the light turn yellow so I knew our green was coming.
I said "get ready" (hoping he would start building boost) he did but it was to late
the light turned and he got a crappy start. I lit my tires up like a fool. Ran 1st out
squealed into 2nd ran that out and at the end of third I had about a car and a half on him.
The reason he had a bad start was we were on a hill so he was having a hard time
reving and staying in place. We both agree it would've been very interesting if he would've had
a normal launch.

WRX:
AEM short ram intake
GFB BOV
Manual boost controller at about 16 psi I think

Cougar:
msds headers/Y-pipe
SVT UIM
SVT LIM 19lb inj.
SVT TB
Pro-M MAF calibrated
Tru-bendz duals
roush springs
ES trans mount inserts
ASP underdrive pulley
Derale Oil cooler
OIl and fuel pressure gauges
Weapon-r intake
apexi filter
taylor wires
motorcraft plugs
Toyo TS-1's with stock 15in. rims (33lbs rim&tire)

WOOHOO!!! wrx's are not invincible!! just wonderin how you can hook up that good and beat it off the start since that thing's AWD?? i dont see any traction mods other than possibly the springs which i doubt do too much. but that is awesome.

What exactly is it that helped u beat the WRX??? Is it the headers that gave u the most significant gain in beating him? I want to know cause I hate when those stupid looking hatchback wrx's always leave me in the dust. No offense to any wrx owner that might be reading this :cover:, hehe.

Uhm, you're an ATX, he's an MTX. He started from a roll (balance out the Scooby's off-the-line performance), and he's got about every bolt on imaginable. Might as well just go for a full motor swap at this point. ;)

hatchback wrx's
When you say hatchback do you mean the WRX
station wagon looking thing? this was a four door NON hatchback version
But I have seen a 13.3 second WRX Wagon.

I get good traction because I have Toyo TS-1's on the front and ES trans mount inserts springs and maybe the
OMP strut tower bar made a difference who knows. But actually I still spin even when trying to launch properly.
But if you read this you'll understand the second win a little more.

Aren't modded WRX's high 13 low 14 second cars?
yes
they pull those great times because
1.) they are modded and turbo'd
2.) they are AWD and dominate with their launch.

ON THE HIGHWAY they can't launch cause they are doing 60!!!
thus my complete ownage of the WRX from a 60 mph roll
and...once again let me repeat the fact that the WRX had a bad launch
from a holeshot even though I've stated it twice. hmmm weird

It bothers me when people don't believe in what I say or the Cougar's
capabilities. Cause I'm one of the few that have provided video clips of me racing
at the track and beating WRX's Preludes and other various cars
and street racing and beating little civics.

Thnx for clarifying that NorCalCoug but I already realize the difference in drivetrain loss. :)

Yes Gyger, I was refering to the WRX wagon but even if an ATX had every bolt on like u Gyger, would it be possible to be quick like a wrx in stock from? Or should i just look toward an engine swap like some people suggest?

I think the best bet for an ATX (in my opinion)
would be a 3L/SVT hybrid motor with headers
exhaust and intake with some good dyno tunning
and possibly a small shot of Nitrous. Say 35-55
that would be a mean car. As long as the tranny
holds up. Which I think it would there is a member
on here that has run 75-100 shot on his ATX many times
and his tranny still exists.
