From my experience, most Lincoln dealers would rather sell a more expensive car than sell the cheap Cougar. So they don't bother to learn anything about them.

i agree. when i went to test drive one, the salesman was tryin to push a mustang on me. i told him no about 10x and then after that he wouldnt stop, i asked him about cougars and he had to go ask one of his co workers cuz he wasnt sure...that's a good way to shut em up

Well I think not knowing their product is a part of it.

However the bigger issue is that they don't advertise the cougar. I haven't ever seen an add for the cougar TV/Print.
They don't have to advertise the "top cars" like the Mustang. They also don't advertise other more expensive cars cause it wouldn't hit its target audience.

Now if they did ads like they did for the focus or celica it would increase sales and they could hang on to the design and line for several more years.

Makes no sense. They can put powerful engines into freaking family sedans (Contour SVT and Taurus SHO), they can juice up the freaking econo-boxes (Focus SVT and Escort ZX2), but they refuse to release a truly fast version of their Sports Coupe.

They have, it's called the Mustang GT and Mustang Cobra. Ford wouldn't dare cut into Mustang sales, thus, no high performance Cougar and no more Probe.

if i were shopping for a new car i would not be anywhere near a ford lot... could be found at the suburu dealer or lexus dealer though.

if i would have to say of all the companies out there toyota and suburu have their stuff together. they actually respond to the younger generation and offer aftermarket and performance support. they also encourage younger drivers to get involved with motorsports

I don't really consider the Mustang a "sports coupe" in the sense of a Cougar, Probe, Celica, or Eclipse. But, yes, I see your point.

Still, it's better to have people torn between buying a Mustang or a Cougar than have people torn between buying a Mustang or a competitors product. They make money either way. Afterall, it's not like Honda worries about the Prelude butting heads with the Integra GS-R...
