Is it illegal to drive without a hood on??? Or what are the risks in doing this??? I will be driving 5-6 miles to pick up my new hood without a hood on... is this ok??? p.s. I live in FL

I guess not. I see people doing it once & a while around here during the summer.

You just run the risk of something from the road flying into it. But like you said, it's only going to be 5-6 miles.

clear - "none stable and breakable" hoods are illegal in most states....

therefor it would only make sense that not having one on is illegal too.

5-6 mile drive... just tell the cop that if you get caught... hopefully he's a nice cop...

Or you could always just drive a different car to pick it up. OR you could go in a friend's car to pick it up.....It seems like there's countless ways around it

I know I am based in the UK, but I am sure the law regarding this would be the same over there as it is over here. Basically, it is illegal to drive a car without a hood because of the injuries you would cause to a pedestrian. Hit a pedestrian at 5mph with a car with a hood, and if he doesn't go under the car, he will bounce off the hood. Same scenario but without a hood, he will fall onto a red hot engine, belts pullys, fans, battery etc and come off a lot worse.

Drive without a hood over here, and the cop would throw the book at you. Maybe it's more lax over there, I dont know......but do you wanna risk it??

oh hey - heres a good idea - Duct Tape! - if your car is silver, this will look even better... just run lines of the duct tape across from the left fender to the right fender... have them over lap a little bit, and once you're all done, it should look like a solid piece... un noticable as you are just wizzing down the road :tongue:

That would take WAY too much effort! I would just drive with it open and hope for the best.

Driving w/o a hood IS illegal.

If you get pulled simply tell the officer that you are on your way to get a new hood, and that he may follow you to ensure you are not lying.


I was forced to do so while at CougarBash...

A cop saw my parked car and asked why I didnt not have a hood. I told him I had Just been in an accident last night and my hood was damaged and it was unsafe to drive with it on. He didnt have a problem with that.

OR you could just keep the Duct tape hood for weight reduction. It has to be WAY lighter then a Carbon hood.
