Marvelous. My first post and I screw it up. Let's start over - my name is Joe, and obviously I just joined up with the forum. I would love to get more involved in the GA group since I am in the big ATL. Is there something to do or someone to talk to about joining up - or is it informal? I would dig going up to the cabin meet (even if I don't spend the night, depending on when everyone is getting there to meet people). I've recently paid off my Cougar and want to get it into shape - and it's a lot more fun with other people, and I can't seem to find the events until after they happen. Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting (or posting) with everyone... and while I am a dork - it's in the coolest possible way.

hey man you just joined up by posting :)

Welcome aboard man. In what part of Atlanta do you live at? I commute to Lenox Park Blvd every morning. Im only about a minute away from Lenox Mall. You might have seen me around town ? I dont live to far away from downtown Atlanta. There are 3 other Cougar owners that live in my town and we usually meet up every Friday and Saturday night. A couple guys go up to Moreland Avenue on Saturday night to catch the street racing action, but im usually in bed by then  If you want to meet up I can give you my cell phone number. Ill be out this Friday night probably or even Saturday night. So just let me know and Ill get with you. Feel free to come to the cabin meet man! Youll be able to meet up with a couple of other members from Virginia that are making the trek down here.

Also, tell us more about your Cougar! Any mods yet? How did you hear about the forums?

oh btw My name is George

Actually, this is exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for - funny sh#t, but I won't make the Fatazz team for a while - I'm only 155 now. And I'm probably not going to be the youngest either, since I turned 30 back in April. I live in Gwinnett - around abouts Beaver Ruin (which is fun to say). As to my cat, I've got an Injen air intake right now, but I have the LIM from a SVT kit and a ProFlow sport MAS at home waiting to be installed. I need my buddy and a torque wrench before I can get it in (and I am toying with getting the UIM and doing it all at the same time... but the old lady probably won't get too excited about that plan).

I have crap going on this weekend - but it would rock to hook up. I found out about the group just trolling the net looking for info about modifying. The Cougar is not the easiest ride to get parts for, eh?

I would definatly wait and get the UIM installed the same time. It shouldnt be too hard to find though for a fairly good price. You may want to try and PM MastaMoon, or check the For Sale section. There are folks selling SVT UIM every so often will all of the necessary parts for install.

The Cougar aftermarket isnt the best, but if ya know where to look it shouldnt be too hard. If you need a part just let us know and we will try to help.

Im sure you know about CustomCougars.com right? You may also want to try BAT Inc.

My Body shop is in gwinett, and ill be making frequent trips there over this winter season, so maybe we can meet up then too. The shop is AutoFitness Center. Also, if you are interested in getting some Razzi products their headquarters is right next to us, in Alpharetta.

Thanks for the info - part of my deciding about the UIM is whether or not I am going to buy one or not. I just really got into looking into mods seriously and I can't decide how much I want to get into... I want to replace the wheels next time I get rubber (cause the OEM options suck) and now engine stuff. Each one isn't too expensive, but then I look at what each leads to. If I do the UIM/LIM replace - I should do the plugs and wires. And then all the extra power.. I should get a clutch. And I really want to do an exhaust with all the intake work. And then Quaife makes a LSD. How cool would that be? If you can't guess, I'm more of a power nut than a looks person. I'm just not sure how deep I want to get into all this.

Yeah - I've been to customcougars.com and spmotorsports.com (which has a pretty good selection but off and on service) - is BAT a website? Sorry I yammer on so long - but I've been dwelling on all this for a while with no one really to bounce it of off.

Well heres my opinion from what I know at least. If you are upgrading your clutch im sure you are looking at a flywheel right? The Fidanza flywheel is 11.5lbs I believe...and from what i know...going lighter than that will cause problems, even stalling during shifts or st idle. lightened flywheel doesn't make any real hp persay, but it will "free up" hp like pulleys will. It's good if your into weight reduction, and slightly quicker acceleration. I woudlnt install one of these until you do the clutch, or if you want to a LSD...while the tranny's out for one of those jobs, have a shope install the other parts. Actual install of te clutch or flywheel when the tranny is out...is actually just minutes...taking the tranny out, and putting it back in sucks...

Now onto the LSD, from what ive heard the Differential on Cougars are weak and suck. The Quiafe will cut time off your 1/4 mile...it allows for equal power distribution to each drive wheel. The Flywheel will free up some hp,a nd allow for quicker revs and dropping RPMS...

If you plan on getting a "perfromance clutch" be careful. If a clutch grabs too hard you can actually damage the tranny. That slippage will reduce the actual heat and stress put onto the tranny. Remember it's $300-$600 for a cluctch, and a helluva alot more to replace an entire tranny. Don't do the clutch until your's goes, or unless you're gonna be gettin some real power. Also as said before, you may as well install a lightened flywheel, and an LSD if you have the money. I hope this helps you a little bit....if you have any more questions feel free to ask man! I also know of some great shops around atlanta that can do amazing performance work as well as cosmetic so just let me know!

edit: if i made some sort of a flub in my typing please forgive me, i unforetunatly have an automatic and im not around MTX trannys all day so my knowledge may be a little rusty

ok, most of that just went WAY over my head.

anywho, hi!! I am Erica. I also don't own a cougar, I have an oldsmobile. The reason I am on here is cause I am George's girlfriend and a lot of these guys are my friends; I met them through DgnZCoug (Jorge). We are all just one big family :grouphug:

Hope to see you soon and feel free to come to the cabin!

See - that is exactly my point! Each mod leads to the next one... and so on into a spiral of money and horsepower. And that's not necessarily bad - I just can't decide if it's for me. :banghead:

BTW, Hi everybody! Jen, Garland, Mike, Adam and Erica! Thanks for the warm welcome. I didn't mean to leap into a mod debate, but I've been bottling it up for a while.

It's really more of a philosophic question. Do I start on the road to modification, knowing that I can't do just a little... or do I hold off and simply enjoy my car as is and concentrate on other hobbies (and ways to spend money). I'm not being completely fair when talking to other people cause I am really trying to convince myself of one thing or the other. Somebody ***** slap me and tell me what to do!! :slap:

The little emotion things are addictive.

Dude I say , MOD THE HELL OUTTA YOUR CAR! lol Just take things in steps. You're going a different route than I did , but it all involves the $$$$.
When i got my car i used to think the same thing.... leave my car the way it is because its fine.... yeah right lol

But my car used to look like this.... and I honestly dont regret the cash I put into it. Trust me, whatever mods you do, youll enjoy everytime you get into your car.

ahhhh....what memories. <-- those ARE addictive! lol

But seriously, modding can be very addictive. George is always saying "after I get this done I won't do anything else to my car..." The next day.."hey honey, what do u think about this?!?!"
LOL

as long as u have the funds and time and still have time for your wife, do it. And I am a female telling u this.:cover::rofl:
