weather finally broke this weekend so i could go for a drive with the slicks. I live in BFE with mostly straight roads so i had to find a subdivision with some curves so i couldnt go blasting through there. still managed to get close to the fender when i hit some bumps. So double the speed and stabbing the brakes and im gonna be all over the fender. so 2 options. cut the fenders or stiffer springs. Ive got extra fenders so ill make some flares eventually, but the quick solution, and one i was going to do anyway, it stiffer springs. Its not going to ride as well anymore but itll be better on course

Got the 800lb springs added to the front today, waiting on the 500lb to show up for the rears. First event of the season is May 30/31 at Grissom AFB in Peru. Should be interesting with the springs and the tires :devilish:

had the first 2 events of the season last weekend. the car is a good bit stiffer running down the road so that sucks. Car was a monster on the course. got the tire pressures dialed in on the first day really good. Last season i could run full stiff on the struts at Grissom, not now. Dialed them to half on day 2 and it was much better. The car is much faster than i am. Didnt have any rubbing issues. Each day I won the class on my first run (sunday it was my fastest anyway). Cleared the class by at least 1.5 sec each day. There were a lot of fast out of town people since this was the first event for most people and there are 3 national events there this year. On Saturday i was 78/113 PAX (61/113 raw) and on sunday 75/120 PAX (59/120 raw)

Very happy with the set up, now i just need to get the stupid codes from popping up all the time. I think i need to go back to the plastic uim/lim. i think ive got leaks where i cant check

seem to be working fine. We have a local autox guru that has set up multiple national champ cars for years. His thoughts suspension is that if you have the right spring rates, it doesnt matter what struts you have on it. Granted these first 2 events were on concrete so the grip is much higher. couple weeks yet til the first event on pavement

Its been a bit since ive updated this. Lots of interesting things have happened this season thus far.
The Good:
-Ive clinched South Bend Region SMF class with 5 wins. If I do one more Ft Wayne event and join the region I can win there as well. My local regions events have not been able to run do to site restrictions, but we have done 3 Co Events, Ive won them all.
-The new spring set up is awesome, car has been handling well.

The Bad:
-I was on the way to the Hoosier Challenge and had electrical issues, had to turn around and take Goldie. Found that problem pretty easy and its all better, Yay
-This weekend the car was starting to hesitate a lot on course. Figured it was fuel related since it started when I got under 1/4 tank. Put gas in it the next day, still did it. Ran and got a fuel filter (10 years is good for them right) and changed that. No luck. So now I need to pull the fuel pump and see if its plugged up, and of course I now have over 3/4 tank. Hopefully i can get to that tomorrow.

Ive got one more event this season, maybe two. Id like to get it out again and have some fun, but Goldie has all the good bits on it too so it might be fun to see if i can beat the Fiesta ST that i normally run against in it

got the car pushed back in place today and back on the ground. Ive got a short list of things to do before my first event on April 18th. Spring break is next week so i should be able to get things knocked out once the parts show up and and i find all the parts i need to put back on

Had the first event yesterday with South Bend Region. I coned my fasted run of the day which would have be .7 sec faster. First run of the day was interesting. New Toyo Proxy slicks that I didnt have a chance to scuff in yet, on a cold day, with too much air in them. I looped it so fast with a basic turn. My only competition from last year went to XS-A. I had him covered by almost a second. Finished mid pack in pax out of 66 drivers, and 16th in raw time.

Car performed great, other that one run where it did the electrical thing again like it was doing last year. I fiddled with the wires, which were tight, and it was fine the last run. Im going to try and find a better way to make the connections, or at least to solder the ends so they dont get squished as much and makes a better connection.

I need to flip the front tires on the rims and get the front splitter to be stiffer and secured better.

We have a new local lot and its not the best suited for my car so we shall see what happens.

got the motor mount put back in place after the bolts rattled out/broke off. Fixed the crappy butt connectors for some proper soldering on some wires. still need to fix the broken wheel stud before i can trouble shoot the electrical problem more

Had an event today. Took the car out after fixing some wires that were wonky and swapping out the battery. I just ran the car on street tires, kuhmo v720s. Car ran like a top and didnt miss a beat. I managed 3rd over all raw time for the first heat, that didnt last through the 2nd heat though. I could have dropped another half second in the last run if i hadnt missed the shift

I guess the battery did the trick. On to the hoosier challenge next weekend at grissom for my last event of the season

Drove the car up to Tire Rack on sunday for the first event in the South Bend Region season. Ran in full race trim in the morning, and put the street tires on for the afternoon due to impending rain. It was windy so the start of the day was filled with timing errors because the timing light kept blowing over, happened to me on my 4th run 8.9 sec into my run. Car performed great, 5/35 in Raw and 15/35 in PAX. Running the street tires was humorous, spun them everywhere.

The car had a good bit of smoke coming out of the pipe. It was only the cars 3rd time on the road this year. For sure going to have to look into this further. Not sure if it was just rich for some reason or if its burning oil. Either way its not good.

Mine belches out a pretty nice smokescreen after sitting for weeks, so the valve seals are certainly shot. But it is pretty clean once it's up to temp.

ONLY 35 ENTRIES? What kind of mickey-mouse region are you running in

it was forecasted to rain and thunderstorm all week. my local region cancelled a TnT before it started for the same reason. There was also supposed to be a big event at MIS, but that didnt work out so well. You really should submit your insurance ahead of time

all righty, its been a summer from hell with the race car. on the way to an event in south bend in June, i think, the coupler for the supercharger blew itself apart, which broke the back of the fan motor, which also bent the jackshaft, and put a hole in a coolant line. Had to make a new shaft and got everything put back together. Swapped in another fan from a shroud i had and got that installed. Fire it up and everything is fine, except the fans arent spinning. Since it was the day before my next event, i just ran 12V to a switch so i could have both fans. I figured it was my poor attempt at soldering to fix the plugs since those got ripped apart. I got another fan and harness from Fastcougar and just got that installed and everything plugged in. Still no fans. So its either a fuse (cant believe i didnt think of this before) that blew when the first fan got trashed, or something in the harness outside of the fan harness. Im hoping its just a fuse, just need to track down which one it is.

Ive got one event this sunday, and 2 next weekend at grissom and im done for the season. The race car is going to get a wiring make over this winter, i did a crap job the first time i did it :puke"

South Bend Region is locked up with 3 first place wins, but my local region is a bit different, ive got a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I think im in 2nd right now, they havent posted points yet. New slicks will help with this since i corded my 2 yr old ones at the last event

Man, I really don't miss slicks. Changing tires on site is the worst. Although I would like to give it a shot sometime just to see if things are different now after a couple of years of seat time on 200tws.

Ive been on slicks my entire career, its not a big deal for me unless its raining.

Yesterdays event was going great, until it wasnt. Surprisingly had a really great run and was 7 of 62 RAW going into the afternoon, and was 2 sec ahead of the kswapped civic in my class. First run after lunch i had my fastest run but i just nicked a cone to barely tip it over. The civic made a strut and brain adjustment and was slowly catching up to me, but i couldnt duplicate the first run. On his last run he got .062 sec ahead of me, and I had one run left. I couldnt get him. If i hadnt cone that run i would have got hi by .075. I finished 11th raw and 22 in pax.

Ive got events this sat and sunday at grissom. I should be able to stretch the cars legs and put time on him, plus i can run my front splitter. The grid area has i giant dip and id scrape like crazy.

Seriously planning on how to build a splitter for next season. It's on the menu. Something removable.

i like the base of how mine works, but i need to find something stiffer. Im torn between keeping it a clean looking street-ish car, or going full race car. Honestly its like 90% race car now, so its not a big leap
