you know how cars with stock ram-air, i.e. ss camaro, have the hood scoop catching the air. i have the visteon hood scoop or whatever its called that came with my zn. is it possible to cut out the actual hood underneath the scoop then mount the ram-air somewhere atop the engine so when the hood is down the ram-air is tucked nicely under the scoop? kinda like old style blowers that fed thru scoops. i think that would give some function to that form. ya know?

I have the visteon/roucsh hood scoop..and i recently cut my hood to make it functional...you should feel all the heat that comes outta there when you stop or park..i made a plastic cover for when it rains to put onto the scoop to block the hole..i love it cause its cooler, and you can really hear the intake ROAR when i floor it!! now i gotta think of some kind of flat pipe to carry the air over to the filter..or maybe create some kind of deflector to make the air go over to the air filter side

I saw someone do that to a Saturn SL2. Thry're running 13's with NO2.

They have a how-to posted here. Not that this would work with your Cougar, but it may give you some ideas. Looks pretty ghetto, though.

The MAIN problem is the lack of space betwixt the hood and the UIM. I'd say, get a bunch of clay, make a rough form, put it on your manifold.(need a period somewhere)Then shave the clay down a bit, depending on how well fibreglass takes heat, fiberglass it. Or just get a kaminari hood and go from there.

And even if you could make the air go from the hood to the MAF, the question would be, is it enough?

All that work and the mods that Saturn has, and it's times/mph still aren't all that impressive when put up against our cars (with a few mods) :)
