anyone ever thought of disigning one of these ( think back to ALIEN, when dude is down in the air duct and iris's open and close in front and behind him) some thing to that nature. Imagine nothing blocking the air flow.:biggrin::bowdown:

i love ideas like this. it would be better, but think of trying to machine the parts for it. $$$$$$$$

a couple thousand? worth it? for what, more points of failure than before? it would also increase the size of the tb itself than a simple butterfly to simply turn. you're just better off compensating that loss with a larger tb.

True, but take a look at the the size of a camera lens not much different, a little redisigning for auto durability,and presto ultra air flow no turbulence what so ever.:biggrin: :poke:

iris TB is a damn good idea.

its not terribly complicated but yes it would be expensive. the gains would be interesting.

It is a neat idea but not practical, not tomention that youonly get its full efect at full throttle.a better idea wuold be to eliminate the throttle plate all together , along with the cams and itake runners! How? phneumatic valves (formula 1). you lose the extra weight , your no longer traped to a specific cam profile( can you say 40 mpg, and 300 hp?)

an iris throttle body would have no resitictive plates for the air to flow around.

you would feel the effect all the time. at any throttle position.

OK , Formula 1 has used a system for years that uses phneumatic valves, so basicly the intake valves act as the throttle plate . Also because a the valves are actuated by air from a computer, there is no cams , so the computer mimics a cam , but valve timing in infinatly adjustable. that is way better than variable valve timing i think. so basicly... NO THROTTLE PLATE...NO CAMS..INTAKE SIZE AND SHAPE CAN CHANGE DRASTICLY!!!!

yeah , one of the bike companys has tried the electric selinoid thing . but its only stable to 4000 rpm , still not good enough for our rpm range. this system would be expensive , but it would definatly pay for its self! :evil::banana::goofy::grouphug::hitit::stupid::kick::kiss::lock::loser::mad::naughty:
:poke::puke::rolleyes:
