Yeah Im about to install some M3 style power mirrors onto my cougar. The problem is they don't make any for ford cougars . So would anybody know what would be the best kinda to get that would be the easyest to install to a cougar. I was gonna order some M3 Integra LED power mirrors then just mod them on there. Just seeing if somebody knew something I didn't that I should look out for when performing this mod. Like If anybody knew how I could make sure they were straight and so forth. Me and another guy are doing this ..he knows not excatly how...just tring to make his job a little easyer considering he never installed power Mirrors on before. He has done non power led's on a Volkswagon. Anyway my Original mirrors are power so I guess it's just a matter of cut and bondo and then plug and play wires. Anybody done a mod on this before ...If not I can try and do one but from what I heard there is gonna be alot of sanding ...it's whatever....help if you can ...thanks

I wish I could help you but I have no clue. I have been wanting to do this myself. If and when you get these on, please let me know how you did it and which mirrors you used. Thanks a lot...

Yeah, no problem me and my friend start next week on the right side mirror. The ***** is they don't make power led m3 stlye side mirrors for the cougar. So I'm gonna get like a random power m3 led side mirror set that is made of pretty good and mold it. It's gonna take a long time. I'll take pictures though of what I did.
easy job for someone well versed with fiberglass

make plates that match the factory mounting plate of the oem mirrors. then bolt the aftermarket mirrors to that. You will need to mold the adapter plate to the aftermarket mirror by using a hi strength panel bonding adhesive and then wrap fleece over the two and coat with fiberglass resin to make the actual finished shape. Once dry use a cut off wheel to get rid of the excess and use a palm sander to clean up the rest. You would then reinforce the resin impregnated fleece with fiberglass matte and resin before sanding and finishing with a lightweight filler and prepping for paint. Could be done in a day by someone that has experience with this kind of stuff. I know both Josh Hanson and myself could tackle a project like that.

You could do that in a day? Sounds like it's a pretty easy mod. Thanks for the info though if you have anymore please feel free to send them on...many thanks ..Oh yeah and with us talking about sanding and fiber glass I bought some killer z3 finder inserts made of fiberglass....how hard would it be to install them? I mean just measuring, placement ...then cutting a box then using some sort of adhesive and sanding...would that be about it???
Someone on here estimated that it would cost more to actually cut the fender, mold the insert in and sand it out and make it look good, prime, paint, than just getting the z3 fenders from aerogear and painting those.
G
I don't know if you payed somebody to do it then yeah ....but if you did it yourself wouldn't it be a crap load cheaper. I can get the inserts for 50 bucks then All I would need to do is measure the same spot on both sides cut it out and use some fiber glass material sand it down prime and paint. I mean the measuring would be the only hard part I think...and that only runs me at maybe 100 max....If I buy the whole fender thats freakin 230 bucks...not inculding the paint and install cost of a body man. I don't know does anybody know more on this cause unless there is a big problem doing it yourself i'm gonna do it with my friend he knows alot about that stuff and from what he talked about it would be more trouble doing the M3 mirrors....thanks ...
G
I think you will save yourself a huge headache if you just pay the $230 for the fenders and you shouldn't have to pay a "body man" to install them. I installed mine by myself in less than 2 hours. If you knew me, you would find that very amazing because I know absolutely nothing about body work.
G
Well Don't get me wrong I'd like to but it's 230 for the fenders then like god knows how much to ship it...than I'll have to install it and last paint it. That would be running me like 300 bucks and I could use that to save for the spoiler I want. Thanks for the advise just the same but for 300 bucks I think I'll just have to suck it up and do it myself.
