Has anyone managed to upgrade their windscreen to the heated variety, if you have any experience on doing this and where to buy one , could you let me know please. Fords want huge money so I'm looking for a cheaper option. Thanks, Vernon. (personally):hitit:

Thats what i did with my last car a mondeo.Cracked windscreen so i told them it was the heated variety.
All you need is the switch and a relay about £30 for both.

According to everything I have ever read about the Cougar, heated front screen was standard.....mind you, I only ever read about the 2.5 V6.........was it an option on the 2.0 Zetec Cat then?

Hi Shagmonkey,
I have a bog standard Zetec and although I was told by the dealer when I bought it new (99) that it would have a heated screen.....it of course came without one. The dealer did compensate me in a small way however. Luckily enough I do not keep my car on the road and can therfor let the engine run to warm through and defrost.
I do have a small starburst in the middle of the screen....I wonder how amiable the insurance company might be?
Incidently, what part of space are you from?

I'm from the Nexis quadrant. Go straight through the infamous Gamma Quadrant, hang a left just past the Xion Moon and keep going. You can't miss it. I'm from the gasseous green planet just on the left as you enter.

I need a new windscreen too as my one is the originol that has done 96K miles so to say it is covered in lots of little chips and scratches is an understatement !!

I will probably soon be getting my dads v6 cougar (he's getting another one!!!), and has done 112k. Therefore, the windscreen has seen better days (and has a crack in it) - it is of the heated variety. How much did Ford quote for a new one?

**Gets ready for a shockingly high price**

Hi everyone btw!!!

I have an original price list for the Cougar and heated screen was a £100 option for all Cougars.

How very strange....ho hummm.....ok...as for the cost of a windscreen.....who cares....it should only cost you £50 if you have windscreen cover on your policy.

I know the retail price plus labour for my new VW Corrado windscreen was just shy of £800 !!!! And that wasn't heated or anything !!

Now, your confusing that with the Naxis quadrant....I'm in the Nexis quadrant........often reffered to by the locals as "Brighton and Hove" .....or....."Hove ACTUALY".......but that's a local joke

Thanks for the replies, Ford want £622 for the screen alone (did'nt ask if it included vat.)
Autoglass wanted £300, that included fitting but not wiring up etc.
They finally suggested an insurance job as well, (£50 excess) so I was well pleased with that, but told me to check out if the wiring loom is in place. otherwise don't bother.
Got home, pulled off the dummy switch to find the cables waiting to receive a switch. Pulled off the auxiliary fuse box cover to find pink fuses 46&47 in place but grey relay R10 is missing. I don't think there is anything needed in the central fuse box, in fact I havent found the cfb yet.
Only things I'm wondering about now are 1, where would the cables/connector be, ready for connecting on to the electric screen?
2, Are there connectors each end of the screen? It would be nice to know that these are in place before I take the cat in. I will start pulling bits off around the screen next week (Ive got a few 12hr. shifts to work over w/end.
3, Have I got the bottle to use a hammer on my 16k 2.5v6 cat........ well if the end justifies the means ......
4, Is her indoors right that you can buy an awful lot of de-icer for £100
so is it worth it........you lot know the answer to that.
Let you know next week how I get on ,
Vernon.

I would say DO IT! ! ! ! But I would also say remove your windscreen wiper and let the arm "smack" back against the glass. I did this, albeit accidently, on my last car and sure enough *bang* the front windscreen shattered. Then you can just tell your insurance company you were changing your blades and the arm swung back etc etc..........it's just that hitting it with a hammer could result in a rather obvious hammer shaped hole in your glass. Ofcourse the other thing is, you only want to crack it idealy. You dont want to shatter it or else you will have shards of glass everywhere!

As for £100 worth of de-icer......she has a point, but I bet she makes YOU do the scraping while she sits inside the car !! If it was her doing the scraping, she wouldn't mind the £100 expense! lol

Or maybe I am being cynical...I dunno
