I was driving my 2000 V6 mercury cougar up the ramps when i all of a sudden lost power and it killed my battery. i got a new one and i had tons of sparks on the positive terminal and it was melting the terminal. I know what wire that caused it but i dont know where it goes. its the positive wire that passes through the starter and goes behind the motor.

It goes to the fuse on the back of the engine and from there to the alternator

I had an issue a while back where the terminal on the Alternator had loosened, moved, and grounded to the alternator casing and was causing a high constant discharge rate.
That issue was compounded by power steering oil all over the alternator which helped to loosen up the terminal enough that it was able to move and ground itself.
