RE:HELP what happened to Felinore ?

Jay,
I have WAAY too much experience with the MTX shifter assembly. Sounds like the bottom shift cable snapped off. If the cable just popped off, there is a little button in the middle of it. Press that in while sticking it back on the shifter and you should be good to go.

On an outside chance, it's possible you snapped off the ball on the bottom of the shifter - especially if you have an after market shifter. Obviously, that's really bad. You'll have to put your stock one back in.

If you have any questions, feel free to IM me at "slockin". I'll say it again... I have WAAY too much experience with the MTX shifter assembly. :banghead:

my cable ends just slip out of the bracket. I just have to line the slots in the plastic up and push them back down into the bracket.

yeah jay sounds like the cable came undone.. if you have a 99-00 should be a easy fix. all i needed to put on the lower cable was a pair of channel locks ..

It connects to the top of the tranny on the side towards the firewall - it's a bit tight down there. I prefer looking at it by removing the driver's side front wheel. It's pretty much right there. Actually, if you think things are OK on the shifter side - there's an adjustment thing that snaps on the end of the cable. It's a way to remove any slack in the cable. If that came undone - then you should also experience the "disconnected" feeling.

RE: HELP what happened to Felinore ? **UPDATE**

well, as MY luch would have it, a bolt sheered off INSIDE the tranny. the head is still in there. I have done the research and will soon be looking for a focus shift tower... the head of the bolt is still missing, but the mechanic is looking for it.. he seems to think he will be able to find it without removing the whole trans...
On a side note.. GET AAA. I didnt have it, cost me 75 bucks to have a flatbed tow it 6 miles...
as for what this is going to cost me.. I believe an arm a leg and my unborn son should do it...

on the plus side, I told him about the Tower from the MTX-75 Focus (the "upgrade") and he is willing to do the conversion as long as it is really straight forward. From what I have seen, the tower is a direct swap, and the ends of the shift cables need to be adapted and thats it.

with luck he will get it from a boneyard in the area that will drastically reduce the price.

Say goodbye to Felinore... the shift tower alone is 1400 PLUS labor to install... I dont have it, and wouldnt spend it if I did.
Time to trade her in. I will miss her

well, he cant find the half piece of bolt in the trans without dismantling the trans. now we are talking MORE money than just the 1400. Im faced with upwards of 2500 to get all that done.

BUT
he CAN replace the bolt, and the car will drive just fine... right to a dealer. im not going to drive her around with the knowlege that this may happen allll over again. I can barely afford to get it back now (200 for the 2 days of work he has done to it) then theres the llittle things that need fixing too. the car hasnt even hit 60K yet....

Just because im losing the car, doesnt mean im losing you guys. I have made many good friends here, and that wont change with the sale of my cougar.

believe me, this is no hasty decision. I love the car, I hate to give it up. but I need something I can count on, not something i can count on breaking.
