Hey Guys,
Well it has been a while since I've been on the boards because I sold my cougar. :kick: It cost too much for me and I miss it. Now I'm not sure if my question even relates to this board. I can't remember if the Duratec 3.0 is the DOHC 24 valve job or not. None the less, I have a Taurus now that refuses to shift into overdrive. It has the single overhead cam 16 valve 3.0. Fluid smells a little burnt. Is it worth trying to drain and fluid and put new fluid in it. Could that solve the problem?? Any ideas guys??

No such thing as a SOHC 16 valve 3L Taurus engine.

You have the SUHC (sound it out) pushrod Vulcan engine.

Not only that but you should be asking this question on the Taurus forums.

Also overdrive is electronically controlled and your slushbox is completely different then the one in the CDW-27 platform.

How many miles on the car? by fluid i assume you mean the tranny fluid.

ATX's do need to be flushed out once every couple years. It costs about $100.

Fluid smells or looks burned... :thumbsdn: You may try a flush & fill, but it's not looking good. Check fluid level too- Overdrive takes the most fluid to engage the planetary, sun, and ring gears in the correct configuration of any forward gear.

i agree with dan!!! regular service intervals for trannys are every 30,000 service it, every 60- 90 thousand flush and service it.(depending on whether or not you stuck to the actual service interval is how often you should flush the whole trans.) look at the fluid. if theres no red in it anymore then you probobly don't wanna risk the service or flush. trans' that have been neglected have a tenancy to not move after the flush or service if the fluid is to far gone. this is because in trans fluid there are detergents. these detergents clean all the sludge out of the trans causing it to clog other things and then the trans just is well shot! so if the fluid has no red just ride her till she blows. other wise flush her! i agree with demon though. it may be electronic. but the way your talkin flush her anyway!!!
