How do I make my UIM look spectacular? Like, I dunno........James's? Do I have to buy one? Probably so.

You don't necessarily need to chrome it like James, just polish it. There should be how-to's on the web somewhere, but essentially you use an abrasive, i.e. sandpaper etc. to until it's shiny. Another thing you could do is get it powdercoated or just paint it with high-temp paint. Of course it's easier to do any of these things with a SVT UIM.
