Yeah Squirel... you got just about as far as I got. I got the cup spiller out... and the radio and ash tray... I did manage to get the shift boot out of the way (but I have a manual, its easier)... but the damned thing still wouldn't budge... When I get time, I'm going to town with it and just removing the whole damn console.
Warning though, I've heard that you can break your overdrive wires removing the ATX shifter...
Just for the record: I took out the entire console, not just the gray/silver part. The E-brake boot slid off pretty easily. The piece was then masked off and painted. It was a bit of a PITA to try and get it out but I didn't break any seals in the process.
