question- would it be more beneficial to gut my pre cats to free up some flow, or just install these msds headers i keep reading about?

If headers are in the budget, do it. Much cleaner job.

money isnt a concern for me at this point, wondering how easy of an installaton are these headers?

off subject, why the fu*k are these exhaust systems so damn restricive?
3 cats and 2 mufflers seems excessive

Header installation is not easy at all, but neither is gutting precats; and with a header install, at least you don't have to breathe platinum dust for 6 hours...

The exhaust configuration is pretty much typical these days. Most 4-cylinders only have 2 cats, because there is only one bank of exhaust. But pretty much every V6 or V8 has had 3 cats for about the last 10 years.

And it doesn't have two mufflers - the upstream one is a straight-through resonator.
