on my way home today and got my first ticket ever. I didnt even see this cop, i was driving, came up to a light, and stopped. then like gave it pretty big throttle all the way up to 60 in a 35. Then all of a sudden i see this expedition with its lights on and i am like F***, im 17 and have had my license in for over a year now and i get it just like that...parents are flipping.....

Congrats on your first of many future tickets.

Can you still get Court Supervision with 25 over? You should... if the cop did not tell you about it, see if you can't get a lawyer to go with you to court and have him make sure you get supervision! Supervision keeps it off your record... and without it being on your record your Insurance can't charge you for it... and believe me... if it goes on your record, your insurance will sky rocket for three years.

That sucks, I almost got my first ticket a few days ago to but he just let me off with a warning, to bad the same didnt happen for you.

Thats about the time I got my first one. Ive had 8 all together now, 5 in the last 10 months and got a warning once for when I passed a cop of a state road.

Hah.. I got mine a couple months after I got my license. 65 in a 45...... Small towns kill you...

Tickets blow, 99% chance they'll drop this to something like 10 over and just drop it anyways. You'll prolly get supervision or at worst, Traffic School.

side note: the only ticket I've ever gotten was for tinted side passenger windows by an asshole cop out to get a young kid driving his car back from the dealership because his alternator couldn't last more than a month. It was dropped, the judge was cool as hell, didn't even need proof I took it off or anything. The DA rocked too.

I speed, but when I do, I'm so paranoid about it, I make SURE there's no cop. Why bother if I'm not going to hit 90+?

two words for ya buddy, "radar detector" haha...seriously tho haha if u don't got one, get one. the trick is when speeding 20mph over the speed limit it's always good to be a lil more paranoid :rofl:....when i speed like the dip that i am, always check ur rear-view mirror at least every 7 secs. and learn to be a car-headlight guru....learn each headlight/taillight of every car so when driving at night u can spot what car is what(say...Crown Vic or Impala) cause most speeding tickets come at night. im sure u know this shiat but def learn this to ur advantage...there's def alot more tips, i'll post an article from Car&Driver(i think)which would be definite help for all ya speedsters.

I've onyl gotten one ticket, and SEVERAL warnings.. I always call the cop sir, turn off my engine, and turn on my dome lights so he knows I'm not trying to hide anything

yeap, best way to do it.

another great way out is to start a conversation with the cop. i always ask about my neons, are those illegal/legal ro what? and it's great question becuase they all have there own view on it. some relate it to a different law and some say that they cant' charge you for it yet.... so in all, i guess it's just how you interpret the law. but ya, the best thing you can do is to get the cop talking and liking you, way before he even checks your record - in my case with 4 other tickets on it.

(i have been pulled over 34 different times, 28 times were warnings and 10 of which were speeding [20+mph over])

Radar detectors are over rated. Unless you are driving in traffic, there wont be any radar for the detector to pick up until it's too late. Your radar detector will go crazy, but it is picking up the radar that just told the cop your speeding! Although they work marginally well if you are using them around other cars, I still wouldn't trust my license with one. The best radar detector on earth is the traffic in front of you. Look as far up as you can see... If all the cars are braking at a certain point, guess what??? A cop is there.

I did get a detector and I still got a ticket because the guy was coming at me and hit it and the detector went nuts but it was too late. 4 out of the 5 most recent ones were between 1030 and 1100pm on a state road in BFE. All this just to get my masters degree. Needless to say I dont go home that way anymore and only do like 5 over because I cant have another one. Im scared too cause I turn 25 in Nov and will be off the family insurance plan, just waiting to see the damage. Good news though is that they think that I am married so I get a break there

I do have a radar detector and it was on, i dont know if i didnt hear it because of music, or if it just didnt go off. I got supervision so i cant get another ticket for some time but i am totally driving like a pussy now. That will probabyl change after a little while. Another thing about the detectors is that the cop was behind me the whole time and i didnt see him. It was an unmarked expedition and being so low in the cougar didnt see any lights on the dash, grill, etc, so when i took off at the green he was right there, it was so avoidable ahhhh.He probably wasnt even clocking but took an estimate, it was cool though i got 60 in a 40 and thats 20 mph over, if you are speeding any where from 21-30 over its 95 so i only have to 75. get urself an Escort Passport 8500!!!:thumbsup: if ya gots the money the warnings on those is the best in the industry and has yet to fail me to this point by warning me too late(it will dent ur wallet like mine $300 tho)

i still say checking ur rear-view mirror for tailing cops and knowing headlights are great ideas.
i haven't been pulled over yet in my life(jinx!!! ughhhhh haha) but the best things are exactly what Brian said...take down ur radar detector, turn car off, turn on the dome lights, and when he/she asks for "license and registration" ask the cop politely if u can reach in your glove-campartment for ur insurance card. it shows you weren't fidiling around in the car before he/she came to ur door(hiding something....well, hide the radar tho haha) and shows that you care about his safety(i.e. reaching for a gun in glove compartment)

oh ya...that article bout tips from cops was in MotorTrend(im still trying to find the date and page # but it wasnt too long ago...maybe a year ago)
