this question should be asked in the Garage Talk Forum.. it will probably be relocated there.

Well you are comparing the cougar to a skyline....
As far as a good fast car, define fast?
for some the cougar is fast enough, being there last vehicle
was slower or they really don't need to go faster.
for others 143top speed is nice too... might take a bit to get there.. but its in it.

this question should be asked in the Garage Talk Forum.. it will probably be relocated there.

there is a 94 skyline on ebay for 24,000 bucks. it's in pretty good shape, and that's a pretty good price. forgot which package it had though

heh, i love my cougar and everything... but i MIGHT be interested in the skyline if i didn't have either cars right now

if you want just insane, all out speed... the cougar is not the car for you - plain and simple, its FWD, heavy and under powered compared to some cars now a days.

however... if you want a reliable car that will take car of you, tonnes of interior room, excellent styling, comfort and a car that isn't too common on the roads, and even less common to see modified, then the cougar is perfect :)

all depends what you want... personally i dont race the cougar, so i'm happy with its power and speed as is :)

Why in the world would you be considering a Cougar vs. a Skyline? And "fast cars"? It's a pretty subjective question.

If I had my selection right now, I would very likely purchase an STi for speed and a G35 for looks/comfort. The Cougar is an excellent beginner sport compact with nice styling. What, exactly, is it that you want the car for?

if you want a skyline call motorex they are in california. its one of the only companies who import them since they don't meet emisions. why compare cougar and a skyline. they aren't even close in any way shape or form. and buying a skyline isn't like buying 2fast 2ridiculous. lots of money for when it brakes. Nice dream.

It's not really just emissions that it doesn't meet, it's federal crash safety standards. :) Motorex went ahead and crash tested a few of them to meet federal standards, and then adjusted the emissions. That's why you can buy from them. Careful though! The conversion itself costs 15-25 grand, and that's on top of the 25+K for a R32 GTS up to 80+K for an R34 GTR.

Rain read the Drag Racing forum... those who race posted speeds there. Cougar's are not slow, but they are by no means 'WRX fast'.

You get a Cougar for style and comfort and because (hopefully) you have good taste. It takes lotsa $$$ to make a cougar 'WRX fast'.

wrx's really aren't that fast they have a good launch which makes them quick. fast is to keep on pulling. they have no mid range. after 60 mph they don't go that good honestly. i've raced a few stock ones from roll ons they didn't impress me like when i saw a guy do a roll on w/ an evo that was impressive.

Perhaps you should try racing one on a road circuit or rally section? Fast is very subjective - 0-60, 1/4 mile or lap times? My mom's Grand Marquis puts down half decent 1/4 mile times, but handles like a freaking boat. The Cougar is a decent, sub-20k coupe/hatchback (for 99-00) but new cars are putting it to shame. You want a 2+2 that's fast and cheap? Find a SRT-4 if you can... or a used SVT Cobra if you've got a little more money. Money no option? How about a family sedan that rocks? The new Mazda 6 can be had loaded with a manual and sport package for around 24K and would dust my Cougar at the strip or the track.

It's a good time to love cars and power.
