Ok here's the story. Back during labor day weekend I finally put my system in. Now like anyone who just got done installing a system I rode around for a little playing my music. Then I got a ticket for violating the noise ordinance with loud music. The way in which I got a ticket was so stupid. I was riding through a parking lot and a gay ass cop(I thought he was security or something) who was crossing the street in front of the store stops and comes up to my car. He's like "Its Sunday morning and you're beating like its Friday night!" and I say "Sorry officer, That was real boneheaded of me. I'll be careful to respect others who don't want to hear loud music in the future." Now the cop leans back a little. I guess he wasn't expecting an 18 year old to say that. The he tells me to pull over into a handicap spot. This gay bastard goes to a Ford F-150 thats parked in the parking lot and brings back the little pad that we all hate. He's like "Ok son, I'm going to have to give you a cititation." me now basically begging "Sir, I really feel as if I have learned my lesson here, and I really don't think a citation is necessary." and he just slaps the ticket in my hand and tells me to have a nice day. I was pissed! Anyways thats not the end of the story. So like any other person who has gotten a ticket I call the little number and they tell me to call back in 10 business days because my ticket hasn't been filed. So I call back, still not filed. I wait five more days still not filed! The worse part is the asshole cop writing was so terrible that I was unable to read the court date. Anyways, I call 3 weeks after I got the ticket and they say I've missed my court date and I have to call another number to avoid issuance of warrant. Argh!!! This only gets worse. So I come to find out that the number that I need to call is busy for the entire time the office is open. It takes me a whole week of calling the number 20 times a day(no lie) to finally get them. I just spoke to them this morning. They said that there is a warrant out for my arrest and I have to come into their office(3 hours away from where I am) and pay $270!!!!(Thats mucho dinero for a poor college student like myself) to get everything cleared up. Sorry for the longwinded story I just had to vent.I guess this is just one of life's valuable lessons that was learned the hard way. Ever since I got my ticket I always ride with my system at 1/4 volume, and when I see a cop, security guard, crossing guard, military personnel, or anyone in an official looking uniform I turn my CD player OFF.

That sucks so much.

It reminds me of one time while I was skateboarding in Philly, this cop comes up to me and my friends in a golf cart and writes all of our information down. 4 months later I get a ticket in the mail for 150 dollars. My friends that I was with all got 25 dollar tickets! On the ticket it said that it was filed 6 days from the day I got the ticket, how is that possible? I called the philly police department and thye said it wasn't filed and that I missed the date I was supposed to pay the ticket, so now it was 300 dollars! I called in another day and they told me that the fine for skateboarding is 25 dollars so all I did was send in $25.00 and I haven't heard from them for about 6 months.
sorry, not trying to steal your thread

I hate it when cops drive normal cars and they suprise the heck out of you, I always think they are security.

Damn bro that realllly sucks :( I thought the cops here in ctown were bad. I would honestly try to talk with someone and try to explain your entire situation. 270 buks is a CRAP load of money for a noise ordinance violation. My highest speeeding ticket was about 290. Gimme a call sometime man Friday and lemme know whats going on.

Once again an innocent citizen gets shafted by the police. Every time I get pulled over I always get every ticket possible... The cops are always rude to me, and treat me like I am 12... and I always end up getting shafted if I have to go to court. I sometimes think that they are out to get me! Seriously, I am a tax paying good citizen and I get treated like crap everytime I encounter a cop. I am always polite, and never give them any reason to treat me the way they do. Welcome to my world!

That is a very large amount of money for a disturbing the peace violation. First of all, I would call your city alderman and tell him that you feel that you are being treated unfairly in this situation. Your alderman WILL take your call, and will try to help you if he feels that you are being taken advantage of. If this doesn't work, try to get a new court date and tell the judge that you just installed the system and went to a large parking lot to tune it so that you wouldn't disturb anybody. The only way to safely tune the speakers is to turn them up and adjust the gains so that you don't have distortion - so that is why it was so loud. Apologize for playing the system loud, and tell them that you were just trying to be courteous to your neighbors. Just might work...

The reason its so much is because I missed my court date. They add on for that the orginal ticket was like $90...

you say you were in a parking lot? i'm pretty sure that unless the owner of that parking lot calls and complains a cop can do nothing to you cause parking lots are private property.

Doesn't matter if it's on private property or not, if it falls within his jurisdiction, he can write the citation.

Ya know, that's a damn good question. I know that cops keep their sworn powers on or off duty, so I guess that it would be up to that particuar towns police policies if a cop could write a citation like that off-duty. I know that they can arrest people off-duty, but they call whatever town's pd they're in for transport. Good question, I may have to ask at work and see.

That sucks man..Hope you can get it straightened out..Cops here suck a big one too..I was driving home from work one night pretty much going the speed limit or maybe a little over and stopped to get something to eat. I see all these cops circling the parking lot and really think nothing of it and pull back onto the highway to go home. After about a mile or so I see blue lights behind me so I pull over. The cop tells me he got a report of me passing a state trooper going 90 in a 65, which was about 15 to 20 miles back and out of this cop's jurisdiction, and says it's called wreckless driving. (DUH) I told him, uh, I don't think I was going that fast. He said do you want me to give you a ticket?? I said well duh, no!! He said, I know this thing will fly, I drive a camaro, but that doesn't mean you can drive fast. I thought, yeah, let's see just how fast your old ass can drive that camaro..hehe...Needless to say, he didn't give me a ticket but WAS very rude and an asshole to me...So I know how that goes... (wasn't trying to steal your thread!!)
