I noticed the other day that when I have the A/C on and I am accelerating (upshifting with Man. Trans.), the engine seems to either (1) hesitate (misfire) or (2) The A/C Compressor seems to toggle on and off. The acceleration is not smooth.

It feels like the engine is stuttering.

I believe that it might be (2) above.

I have a 2000 with 2.5L V6 with MTX.

I do not believe it is a WOT condition since I never floor-it when I drive.

Any ideas or experiences with this?

The dealer could not duplicate this situation.

you hit the nail on the head... it's your a/c compressor coming on and robbing you of mucho need hp

I just ran my A/C for the first time yesturday and had the same thing happen.....
Figured I'm just gonna have to start from stopped like a grandpa

I agree with PuckPuck, though probably nothing to worry about.

Sorry folks. I've had mine in to three different dealers and have been told that this is normal operation for the Cougar with the AC on (no codes). The hesitation (miss) is maddening but apparently within normal limits. Quality is Job 1???
