Probly just an add-on. The Cougar S for one has different taillights, for two as far as I know (which isn't a lot, so somebody correct me) there was only one Cougar S actually made, and it was sold at a Ford Auction where they auctioned off many of their concept vehicles, and for three, all the pictures of the Cougar S that I've personally seen have it as a Champeign type color, not what looks to me as Laser Red.
So I think it's just an "S" badge. Like when you can go to the dealership and get the "COUGAR" letters they are seperate...maybe he just bought, or found an "S" somewhere and slapped it on there?
But this is just my input...what is the link where you found this?

That actually looks to be more like a Ford Production photo used for advertising purposes...just by going by the lighting & the white backdrop w/lack of reflection on the car. Plus that is what the Cougar S badging was supposed to look like...nothing fancy....
Yeah, I figured it was a re-badge, but didn't know who or why or what would have caused that. Production photo seems like the obvious choice to me as well.

Yea, that's from the old '01 booklet with the Cougar S listed in it.
The Cougar S had no physical differences from the 99-01 Cougar, except it was to have the hood scoop and the 17" rims. It's release year was to be 01, when the front clip changed....but the Cougar S was going to keep the same style as the 99-00. Just like they are doing now with the 04 SVT Lighting and the 04 Heritedge F-150. Same body as the 03.

·In 01 I had actually ordered a cougar s from my dealership. They soon called me to inform me that it wasn't going into production, but their brochure stated a 200hp cougar :biggrin:

Cougarfest 2001, wasn't there a RED cougar with Cougar S engine in it on display out on the lawn of the AutoAlliance plant?
either way, I agree with Scullin, that pic looks like a Ford promotional pic, and may not be the actual pic of the car being sold.

Somebody on here who supercharged their Duratec mentioned that. They bought a set of Cougar S letters from the dealer, and used the "S" and the other "C" and put them on his car so it said "COUGAR SC". I forget, maybe AtomicInternet?

The Cougar S was actually going to be the exact same as the 01-02 body style (new bumpers, wheels, etc) and use the newer spoiler like what is pictured... it was also supposed to come with the hood scoop and a dual exhaust, similar to that of the 'tour svt....
i should know this, as i took actual spy shots of the pre-production cougar S in one of the ford engineering lots.... then i ended up having to take the pics down cause ford didn't like it very much... since i was an employee for ford at the time i obliged.

edit: I seem to recall someone saying at CF01 that this: pic 1 pic 2 used to be that black one.
Anyone have info on the validity of that?
I have a couple more pics of the red one. There's Wings West stuff on there. Even red tinted windows!
