The past bunch of times ive driven hard it likes to buck on occasion under acceleration. Last night I tried to keep up with my friends GSR and when we both took off, way before redline thru every gear the car was bogging real bad and my headlights were going dim. My ignition light does come on, but only if im right next to the rev limiter. Ive also noticed the windows roll down/up slow as well as the sunroof sometimes. I got belt squeak for the first time like 3 weeks ago but it doesnt feel glazed. When I felt the bogging I thought it was my fuel pump, since I had just under a quarter tank of gas... but that doesnt explain the voltage drop in the rest of the car. It should blow a fuse before draining from my dash, headlights, ignition etc...

...so do alternators get sick before they die? or should they just _die_? i'd like to get one of those gatorback belts soon... see if that helps.

my alternator "got sick" before it died...well actually I replaced it before it died. You know, flashing battery light at high RPMs, my guages would just reset themselves while I was driving, and the radio would turn off.

Alternators do sometimes get "sick" before they die. I've had it happen in two other cars I've had. The same things you mentioned happened both times. First I'd notice a bogging at WOT then the windows rolled up slow. Finally the lights would visibly dim while the vehicles were idling. Next thing you know the alternator needed to be replaced and the problems went away.
The belt spray stuff is ok unless you use it too much. After a while it'll cause the belt to slip more as it builds up on the belts and pulleys and glazes up.

sorry, i dont want to steal your topic but i figured it was a waste to start one for such a simple ? most likely.my belt cherps when i take off and then if it has to work, like going over a bump or something, which belt would that be and do you guys think that spray works or should i just get a new one

my alt did the same thing before it crapped out on me (dimming headlights under accel, windows rolling down slow, belt chirps)
just replace before you get stranded like i did.

Neil I'd say take your Alternator and get it rebuilt so they can boost the output while they fix it. At least thats what I've gotten from most of the treads about alternators on here. Most people say it's better in the long run, especially if you have Subs and stuff. Supposedly it's about the same price or cheaper then a new one.

Babs I'd say get a new belt. The spray is just a temporary fix.
