i have pulled this apart, and not only is the timing off, but it also tries to lock itself 2-3 times on my drivers side...

So it clicks 3 times, and locks. Any help on how i can fix this?

i think i know exactly what the problem is...

There's a "sleeve" that surrounds the door cable near the door handle. That sleeve has a notch in it. This sleeve fits into a recessed area in the door. If it is not seated properly then it will do exactly what you've described. The sleeve is held in place at the factory by an adhesive. If need be use some extra tape or something to hold it where it belongs.
