On my way back from the bank the other night, I ended up at stop light near the mall, with some kid in a black Cougar coming up next to me. He starts to rev at me, and I respond by just looking at him. Light turns green, he takes off, and I notice no V6 emblem on the back. Anyway, he was only a little ahead of me since he spun a little, and I gave it a little gas to keep up. I shifted right at my VTEC crossover point in first and second, then shut it down. I don't street race and this was a sort of busy area. But on he kept cruising.

I was just trying to stay even with him, and was easily able to do so shifting between 5k and 5.5k rpm. I just thought this guy might think he was the bomb or something. He looked like a high school kid, and I didn't think he'd be on here. The looked and sounded stock. It also sounded like an auto by the way it was shifting.

It always seems that when I'M not racing and someone else is trying too, the car responds better. Go figure.

Without the throttle hang fix, we all sound like ATX's. Otherwise, the best way to tell is if you see the car's momentum change during shifts. Our engine drops revs super-slow, for emmisions sake.

Speaking about Type R's my friend who drives a GSX ran into one. He wanted to run just a tad with him and then he proceeds to curse my friend out. He was like "what started that?" So he just turned and left. Man I wish every other Import owner was like you, sheesh what ever happened to having a "friendly" run in? Everyone's has to either show off and not admire the other person's ride or be rude. He didn't cut him off either. My rule, give a thumbs up, a wave back, or at least a head nod. What happened to respect??? Oh well!! Some people don't deserve to drive nice cars.

I'm not saying what that R owner did was right, but constantly getting stared at and being bugged to race, does get old quick. I only ignore the kids in Civics that are riced out. Other than that, I'll acknowledge people, but since I don't street race anymore, I probably disappoint a lot of people. Oh well. I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Nah but I'm sure you'd accept a challenge from an Eclipse Turbo GSX. I know my buddy wasn't trying to be rude or anything. The Type R owner was acting all crazy and stuff, fliping him off and eveything, certainly improper conduct.

I'm not much of a street racer (Chicagoland area and all - lot of cops) but reading this thread made me realize in the whole year I've had my Cougar, no one has challenged me to a race of any sort. Damn, now I'm kinda dissapointed.

Even weirder, is back when I had my Ol' 91 Escort I used to get punks in Mustangs mess with me to race...

I don't understand that. Not saying your car is modded, but if it is why would you not expect people to challenge you?

You do know that you drive the "Holy Grail" of fast compact cars right? Of course you are going to get challenged. If you don't want people to challenge you get a Yugo.

My car is modded, but it doesn't look it since I have an intake and header only. I have learned that this car attracts a lot of attention. I'm just saying I'm not fond of it. I bought the car for what it could do and because it's what I wanted. I only wish it wasn't so popular among kids. I wouldn't call it the "Holy Grail" of anything though.
