Heres some Pics of my cabin air filter and some instalation pis also....

1 The cabin filter old new file is a comparison between the 5 year old filter and the new one.

2 The Filter Debris file is a closeup of all the junk stuck in my old filter.

3 The Filter Replacement 1 file shows the filter housing without the filter after uninstalling the black cowling below the windshield.

4 The Filter Replacement 2 file shows the filter housing with the new filter installed.

I bought my new filter at Advance Auto for around 17 bucks. Installation is as easy as removing the Pass side cowling and removing 2 clips.

Mine old one looked the same and your old one! And my new one looks the same as your new one!!! LOL I know what you mean about how it was made.
ok, I did not know we had such as this. What year of Cougar are these filters in?
every year! 99 and up! The filters are actually more expensive then all the other filters that we have in our car though!

ya I hate that filter... I also thought it was a bit of a pain to replace.

I decided to replace mine last summer... I figured after 5 years it must be disgusting. So I bought a new one and pulled out the old one. and guess what, the old one was perfectly clean [almost as white as the new one]. Appearently, I dont use my cabin air controls much.
I replaced mine last year, it was pretty dirty, but I didn't really notice a difference in anything. What exactly does this thing do?

Text I just replaced my filter after 5 years and mine was just as filthy(can u see that big clump of junk?). It was only 12.99 at Autozone, it was the cheapest and it made a huge difference.

it filters intake air from the outside before it goes through your HVAC ya silly head! (hence the title "cabin air filter").
After reading this, I'm replacing mine tomorrow. Thanx guys and gals...Jamie
Yeah seriously, I think I'll replace mine this weekend, i've noticed my AC has to be on full blast (on a 90 degree day) for me to feel "ok". Thanx
replaced it and can't tell any difference. Although it was very nasty.....no cooler air or anything. Might be a freeon thing. Jamie

I don't think the air would be any cooler, but it should be a hell of alot cleaner. I replaced mine in the spring and some little creature had made a nest in mine. Needless to say it was pretty nasty.
