My '99 I4 cougar is sitting in a parking lot down in D.C. It wouldn't start up. I was with my bro (2 cars...thank god) and we stopped for gas and it woudln't start he jumped it and it started no problem. Then we went down to the metro station to go into D.C. and when we came back it wouldn't start again. This time we tried to jump it again and it wouldn't work. When I turned the key to start it it would make this clicking noise over and over. The engine wasn't turning over there was just this clicking sound. We even sat there and let it charge for a good 30 min or so and the same result. When I tried the headlights they would flash on and die...I'm gonna get it towed tomorrow and see what the deal is. But I was wondering if any of yall had any input. I really hope it's not the alternator though, any help is appreciated.

sounds like a bad battery, before you get it towed, I would check that out. To save some money anyways.

Yea we decided to just change the battery. So after we threw the new battery in it started right up and everything seems to be running good. The only thing is my MPG thing isn't workin right. It's reading like 16 sometimes and 60 some other times. I don't know what thats all about. But whats the possibility that this could've been caused by an alternator problem??

When the battery been ubplugged for about 20 min i think. The ecu loses its fuel trim memory and has to relearn it. Usually is done within the first ten miles. Shouldnt be anything to worry about.
