I wanna put cruise control in my cougar since mine didnt have it from factory. I could find all the parts I need except for the cable going to the throttle body. I have a MTX but only have a ATX cable and I am scared of making it unuseable if I try to chnage it. I can't find any on the Internet or near me. Does anyone still have one or know where I can get one? I am from germany so if anyone could make the effort to send me one from where ever they are from I would of course pay all the shipping costs. I just really need one and I kinda don't trust those Russian auto parts sites which say they still have them.

A picture of the area would help. I always thought the cruise control cable was part of the cruise control module. The only thing that’s transmission specific is the gas pedal to throttle body cable, not the cruise control.

It is a different cable. Very easy to change out on the module side. I might have one, I'll look.

Well, I do have an extra but before I part with it, you might have some other options:
First, are you searching for MK1 or MK2 Mondeo cables? That car is so common over there I'm very surprised you cant find one.
Second, you could swap to an ATX throttle, bracket, and cables (some people prefer them because of the way the throttle actuates)
Third, you could swap to an ST200 throttle, bracket, and cables (This would be an upgrade)
Fourth, If you can find an old IMRC, you could cut the cable end off of that and use it on your cable. You just need a new cable crimp but those shouldn't be hard to find.

If none of those are realistic options for you, message me and we can make a deal.

First, I was looking for Mondeo Mk2 cables and anything similar. Basically everyone over here didn't get cruise control in their car when they bought it new which I can't understand and the ones that got it and sold them are all already bought since its such a rare part! The ONLY thing I could find was ONE 2.0 manual cruise control cable but with the control unit attached to it and i didn't wanna cut into anyones chances for cruise control.

Second, basically everyone here drives stick so ATX brackets are so finding them is also almost impossible.

Third, no one sells ST200 engine parts seperatly and I don't have the money for a ST200 Swap (yet) lol.

Fourth, I do indeed have a non working IMRC laying around but I am in the process of fixing it and selling it or keeping it as spare. And defect IMRC for some reason aren't being sold. I already saw that they have the same piece at the end. And maybe someone (I doubt anyone here but maybe somewhere in ur country) is looking for a ATX cable and if I don't have to modify it I really don't wanna do it because even how small it is I will always see that its not OEM and that will always bother me because I have a problem with perfection.

Plus dealerships can't get me anything and I work at a Ford Dealership.
It's like the perfect combination of why I am looking over the big pond for help haha.

I don't have a 2.0 cruise control cable.
I have a V6 automatic cable.
I only SAW a 2.0 cable with control unit on ebay.
Here is the link: Ford Mondeo MK2 II 2 1996-2000 Tempomat Steuergerät Stellmotor 97BB-9C734-AB | eBay
Also don't pay the full price. Just suggest 75€ or something that guy puts up higher prices than he actually accepts.
If he doesn't send it to france I could buy it for you and send it to you. Shipping to france is probably only a few euros more (depends on how big it is).

mmc757,
I have full working set of cruise control from ATX trans, but I have MTX in my cat. You mentioned in this topic about cable end: "Third, you could swap to an ST200 throttle, bracket, and cables (This would be an upgrade)".
I have full swap of ST200 - what does it mean? Is CC from ATX compatible 1:1 with ST200? Or do I still need MTX end cable to make it working? (I don't want throttle set from ATX (your 2nd opt).

It's been too long since I looked at this for me to remember, but it sounds like you're saying you have both a complete ATX set and a complete ST200 set...so just look at them and see if they fit 🤷‍♂️

Wait.... but I can remember reading that if you Swap from a MTX TB to an SVT/ST200 you keep the MTX Cruise Cable and only swap out the pedal cable and Bracket.
At least I think it was said like that in the SVT Lite Guide

OK I understand that you suggested to buy ST200 with CC option to upgrade and have CC for MTX right? It does not mean that every ST200 set include everything to CC right?

Looking over this after just swapping the MTX into an ATX car, I'm trying to figure out exactly whats transmissions specific about the CC cable. The only reason I touched anything for my cruise control assembly was to pull the intake off to make it easier to get to bolts under the throttle body.
And that was the same with the MTX swap I did a decade ago.
The only time I've ever switched a cable was the throttle cable swapping to a SVT throttle body.
The ATX and MTX use the exact same intake, throttle body, throttle body bracket, and throttle cable. How is the CC cable any different to where it wont work?

Quote from the SVT Lite Guide:

....

Now ask yourself:
"Self, is my car an ATX (Automatic) with cruise control?"

If you said YES you will also need:
Cruise Control Cable - F5RZ9A820B

If you said NO or don't use cruise you just saved a few $$$

================================

Now ask yourself:

"Self, is my car an MTX (Manual)?"

If you said YES you will also need:
SVT Throttle Cable - XS8Z9A758CA (The ATX uses the same throttle cable as the SVT)

If you said NO you just saved a few $$$

The ATX uses a different bracket.....
As far as I have seen comparing the two the ATX Cable is a bit longer than the MTX and uses a different piece to clip to the TB "handle".
And as far as I know if you make the end piece of the ATX Cable fit it will work.

I didnt switch anything on my engine for the ATX to MTX. both transmissions work just fine on the throttle body and bracket that the car came with.
As far as I can remember I've never heard of anyone having to swap the throttle body in doing an ATX to MTX swap. The only part of the entire engine thats ATX or MTX specific is the wire harness and ECM and do you have a flywheel or flexplate.
If it's the same throttle body and same throttle cable bracket, why doesnt the same cable work on either?

I think maybe you should start over and explain to us exactly what you're trying to do and what you currently have available to do it with.

Yes, so I have complete ST200 swap without CC and have complete CC set from Cougar ATX lift version. Do I need diifferent end cable or not in this case?

The automatic cars use a different throttle body than the manual cars. The manual cars have a compound linkage so the throttle is less touchy at tip-in. The autos don’t. Each one has a different kind of connection for the cruise control and the pedal cable.

The SVT or ST200 needs the pedal cable from an automatic, and a cruise cable from a manual.

Thank You B3NN3TT! Last question: If it was Cougar with original V6 motor and MTX without CC, then one would need both pedal cable and cruise cable from manual?
